Richard Dean Anderson was born on 23 January 1950, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in America. He is the eldest of the four sons of Late Stuart Jay Anderson and Jocelyn Rhae Carter. He was raised in Roseville, Minnesota, where he went to Ramsey High School. He studied at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and in St. Cloud State University where he discontinued studies as he felt listless.
He broke both his arms in his childhood, which barred him to fulfill his dream of becoming a hockey player. He has participated in cross-country bike ride from Minnesota to Alaska, just after finishing his college. He has lived at San Francisco and Manhattan before moving to Los Angeles.
He is not married but has had relationships with Marlee Matlin, Deidre Hall, Lara Flynn Boyle, and some other women. He is now romantically involved with Apryl Prose and has a daughter with her.
He appeared in the television series ‘Stargate SG-1′, for which he earned much fame and honor. He has also appeared on ‘Young Doctors in Love’, ‘Odd Jobs’, ‘Through the Eyes of a Killer’, ‘Beyond Betrayal’, ‘Firehouse’, etc. He has also been the executive producer of five shows, which are ‘MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis’, ‘MacGyver: Trail to Doomsday’, ‘Stargate SG-1′, ‘Firehouse’ and ‘From Stargate to Atlantis: Sci Fi Lowdown’. He has also acted in these shows. He has composed a song for an episode of ‘MacGyver’.
He won the Saturn Award in 1999 for the Best Genre TV Actor for ‘Stargate SG-1‘, and was nominated for the same in 1998 and 2000. He earned the nomination for the same award and for the same series from 2001-2004 for the Best Actor in a Television Series for and for the Best Actor on Television. He was nominated for the Gemini Award 2000 for the Best Dramatic Series for ‘Stargate SG-1′. He also was a nominee for the TV Land Award in 2005 for the Most Uninsurable Driver “MacGyver’ and in 2007 for the Greatest Gear or Admirable Apparatus for ‘MacGyver‘.
