Don S. David was born on 4 August 1942 in Aurora, Missouri, U.S.A. He had done B.S in theatre and art from Southwest Missouri State College and M.A. in theatre in 1970, from the Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He then did a Ph. D. in theatre, from the same university, after teaching for several years.

While he taught at the University of British Columbia, he also started acting. He left the job at the university, to devote his full time to acting. Being inclined towards other arts forms as well, he did painting and carving as a visual artist. He continued sculpting and painting/drawing throughout his life and sold his creations to increase his income.

He died on 29 June 2008 because of massive heart attack. He died at the age of 66. When he passed away, his family requested to donate for the American Heart Association in his memory, instead of giving floral tributes. The death of the actor was also the death of his character, in ‘Stargate: Atlantis’. The writers mentioned the death of his character in a similar way, to pay him a tribute. They even named a spaceship in the series, after his name, in the final episode of ‘Stargate: Atlantis’ (aired on 9 January 2009).

He earned much recognition from the series ‘Stargate SG-1′, in which he played the role of “General George S. Hammond“. Before this, he appeared as “Major Garland Briggs” on the series ‘Twin Peaks. He played the double for Dana Elcar in the TV show ‘MacGyver‘; he had also acted in two of its episodes.

He appeared in ‘Joanie Loves Chachi’ in 1982 and in ‘Look Who’s Talking‘ in 1989. In 1990’s he acted in ‘Look Who’s Talking Too’, ‘Omen IV: The Awakening’, ‘The Gambler Returns: The Luck of The Draw’, ‘Cliffhanger’, ‘The Outer Limits’, ‘Alaska’, ‘The Fan’, ‘Con Air’, ‘Atomic Train’, etc.

In the year 2000, he appeared in ‘Suspicious River‘, ‘Best in Show’ and ‘The 6th Day’. After this, he acted in ‘Hostage Negotiator’, ‘Just Cause’, ‘The Twilight Zone’, ‘Savage Island’, ‘The West Wing’, ‘Psych’, ‘Burn Up’ and ‘The Uninvited’, to name a few of his works.

He won the Director’s Award at the Fright-Fest in 2003 as a Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘Savage Island. He was nominated for the Leo Award in 2004 in the category- Dramatic Series: Best Supporting Performance by a Male for ‘Stargate SG-1′.

Role in Stargate

Don S. Davis played the role of “George Hammond” in ‘Stargate’ tv show. For first seven seasons of the series, he commanded Stargate Command as the United States Air Force Major General. He was promoted as the Lieutenant General at the starting of the eighth season, and became the head of the new Homeworld Security department.
