Amanda Tapping was born on 28 August 1965 in Rochford, Essex, England. She moved to Ontario at the age of three along with her family. She graduated from the North Toronto Collegiate Institute in 1984, excelling in environmental science and drama. Then, she decided to study drama and joined the School of Dramatic Arts of the University of Windsor, in Ontario. She has a fraternal twin brother, named Christopher, who works as a database administrator in Toronto. She has one more brother named Richard and her third brother was Steven, who passed away in December 2006.
She is married to Alan Kovacs and they have one daughter named Olivia B. She lives with her family in Vancouver, British Columbia.
She was much inclined towards performing on the stage from the days of university. Therefore, as a part of continuing her study of theatrical arts, she started performing in the stage productions just after completing her education. She has also made her appearance in many TV commercials. She played the role of “Samantha Carter” in the television series ‘Stargate SG-1‘ and continued with the same role in ‘Stargate Atlantis‘. She also earned roles in ‘The X-Files’ and ‘The Outer Limits’.
She has also done roles for ‘Net Worth’, ‘What Kind of Mother Are You?’, ‘The Donor’, ‘Millennium’, ‘Stuck’, ‘Sanctuary’, ‘Ghost Hunters’ and ‘Dancing Trees’.
She has also directed one episode of ‘Stargate SG-1′. She is involved in some more activities. She put in her efforts as an executive producer for a few episodes of a new series, called ‘Sanctuary’. She has founded of a comedy troop ‘Random Acts’, with the collaboration of Katherine Jackson and Anne Marie Kerr in the early 90’s.
She won the Saturn Award for the Best Supporting Actress on Television for ‘Stargate SG-1′ in 2005 and was nominated for the same in 2001. She earned a nomination for the same award in the category of the Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series in 2002 and 2004 and for the Best Genre TV Supporting Actress in 2000, for her role in ‘Stargate SG-1′. She became the winner of the Leo Award under the category - Dramatic Series: Best Lead Performance by a Female for ‘Stargate SG-1′. She was nominated for the same award, in 2000, under the category- Best Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series for ‘Stargate SG-1′.
